Large-scale heat pumps

Efficient use of renewable environmental heat

Heat pump technology is one of the key technologies for the energy transition. Especially in the residential sector, heat pumps are already making an important contribution to the decarbonization of the energy supply by harnessing the unlimited ambient heat for heating or hot water production. However, this well-known and proven operating principle also demonstrates its strengths on a larger scale. Large heat pumps enable a highly efficient supply of renewable energy in industry, commerce, municipalities, and large residential properties.

How does a heat pump work?

Regardless of the heat source and output, the operating principle of a heat pump is always the same: Heat is extracted from the source and fed into the heat pump circuit using a refrigerant. The compression of the refrigerant increases its pressure and temperature. When the heat is finally transferred to the heat sink, the temperature of the coolant also decreases, causing it to become liquid again. In the expansion valve, the coolant returns to its original temperature due to a reduction in pressure – and the cycle can begin again.

Individual heating solutions up to 2 MW

2G afilia large heat pumps are available as air-to-water and water-to-water units. This allows a wide variety of existing heat sources to be utilized – even in combination (booster technology).

Even in single-stage versions, our water-to-water heat pumps can achieve temperature fluctuations of up to 70 K. Two-stage concepts are possible for applications with higher temperature fluctuations – including project-specific solutions with flow temperatures from 90 °C to 130 °C.
