From day one, I’ve met people who take real ownership of what they do and are deeply committed to building long-term relationships. The culture is open, collaborative, and genuinely focused on innovation and delivering value to customers. There’s a strong sense of team spirit, and the drive and enthusiasm of the people around me are truly inspiring.

What makes the Belgian and Luxembourg market unique when it comes to CHPs and heat pumps?

Steven Deygers: What makes the market unique is its diversity and complexity. There’s a wide range of industrial activity, and energy policy differs across regions — whether it’s Flanders, Wallonia, or Brussels — as does the grid infrastructure. This means the market really rewards tailored solutions and strong local know-how. At the same time, there’s a clear focus on energy efficiency and decarbonization, which aligns perfectly with the solutions 2G offers. It’s a market where flexible, innovative energy systems like CHPs and heat pumps can make a real difference.

What trends or developments do you currently see in the Belgian/ Luxembourg energy sector?

Steven Deygers: In the Belgian energy sector, we’re seeing a clear shift toward decentralization, electrification, and greater flexibility. More and more businesses are becoming aware of grid constraints, price volatility, and the importance of having flexible capacity to manage these challenges. Technologies like CHPs and heat pumps are right at the heart of this transition — especially when combined with digital monitoring and demand response solutions. By adding heat pumps to the portfolio, we’re in a strong position to offer full, integrated solutions that help our customers reduce their carbon footprint even further.

What do you think sets our solutions apart from others in the market?

Steven Deygers: What really sets 2G’s solutions apart is the combination of German engineering quality with a strong commitment to service and customization. Our systems are not only highly efficient but also digitally integrated, allowing for smart monitoring and control. On top of that, we have one of the most responsive and reliable service networks in the industry. It’s this mix of performance, flexibility, fast support, and long-term partnership that truly differentiates us in the market.

Data centers are increasingly looking for reliable and efficient energy solutions  — how do you see the role of CHPs and heat pumps in serving this sector in Belgium/ Luxembourg

Steven Deygers: Belgium is emerging as Europe’s new transit hub, perfectly positioned between major capitals like London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam. This, along with stricter European privacy laws, makes Belgium an increasingly attractive location for data storage customers looking for alternatives to US-based hyperscalers.

Data centers demand extremely high reliability, and they generate significant amounts of heat that often goes unused. CHPs can play a key role as a highly efficient primary or backup energy source, ensuring resilience and stability. At the same time, heat pumps can recover and repurpose waste heat — for example, feeding it into a nearby district heating scheme — which helps improve overall efficiency and sustainability. By combining these technologies, data centers in Belgium can benefit from greater energy security, higher efficiency, and a clear pathway toward lower emissions — all of which are top priorities for the sector.

What specific challenges and needs do you anticipate when addressing the data center market, and how can 2G’s solutions meet them?

Steven Deygers: When addressing the data center market, the first step is to clearly understand the key drivers and priorities of these customers. Many data centers are actively working to reduce their environmental impact, aiming to lower their global warming potential (GWP) by 2030. At the same time, everything must be implemented without disrupting ongoing operations — risk elimination and uninterrupted service are absolutely critical.

Another challenge is meeting strict efficiency targets. For example, data centers above 500 kW need to reduce their Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) to below 1.3 — or 1.2 in Germany — as part of their efficiency and sustainability goals. PUE, which is calculated by dividing total facility energy by IT equipment energy, is a key measure of data center energy performance.

To meet these challenges, data centers need solutions that deliver reliability, redundancy, energy efficiency, and fast response times. This is where 2G’s modular CHP systems, combined with advanced remote monitoring and integration capabilities, are a perfect fit. We can offer tailored solutions that provide power, support heat recovery, help achieve emissions targets, and optimize costs — all while aligning technically and strategically with our customers’ long-term goals.

Demand response is becoming a key element in modern energy systems. How do you see 2G contributing to this in Belgium/ Luxembourg?

Steven Deygers: This creates exciting opportunities for 2G in Belgium/ Luxembourg. Our CHP systems are not only highly efficient but also extremely controllable, making them ideal for grid balancing and participating in demand response programs. As Belgium’s energy market continues to evolve, the need for flexible, decentralized assets will only grow. 2G is well-positioned to help our customers take advantage of this shift, turning their energy systems into valuable tools for both operational efficiency and additional revenue streams.

What are your initial goals as you take on this new role?

Steven Deygers: In the first few months, my main goal is to listen and learn. I want to take the time to truly understand the team, our existing customers, and the specific dynamics of the Belgian and Luxembourg market. This will give me the foundation I need to identify key opportunities and ensure that any plans or strategies I propose are well-informed and aligned with local needs. I’ll focus on building strong relationships with stakeholders and developing a clear, tailored go-to-market strategy for Belgium/ Luxembourg.

How do you see the market for decentralized energy solutions evolving in Belgium/ Luxembourg over the next few years?

Steven Deygers: I believe the trend toward decentralized energy solutions in Belgium/ Luxembourg will continue to accelerate in the coming years. This shift is being driven by rising energy costs, growing concerns about grid stability, and ambitious sustainability targets. More and more customers are seeking greater control, predictability, and resilience in their energy supply — and decentralized technologies like CHPs and heat pumps provide exactly that. The key to success will be integrating these systems in a smart, efficient way, and backing them with strong aftersales service and advanced digital capabilities to ensure long-term performance and customer satisfaction.
