Faithful service by sandbag filling machine
February 15, 2024
In 2022, 2G donated a sandbag filling machine to the Technisches Hilswerk Helfervereinigung Ahaus e.V – a local aid group. These aid groups support local branches of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief.
During the latest floodings around the turn of the year, the machine once again proved its worth.
With extreme and unexpected weather events becoming more frequent and the number of global natural disasters increasing, many people around the world are now experiencing the impact of climate change firsthand. The commitment by large parts of the world to abandon the use of fossil fuels over the coming decades sets a positive strategic course.
Nevertheless, it remains critical to prepare for potential future weather events to mitigate their consequences. An important part of it will be the prevention of flood damages and the THW is critical in that.
With many volunteers across Germany, the THW immensely contributes to mitigating the impact of natural disasters or rather their prevention. Back in 2022, 2G therefore decided to support the local THW branch by donating a sandbag filling machine. The machine weighs over half a ton and can fill approximately 3,000 sandbags in an hour – which significantly reduces the workload on volunteers. During the latest flooding around the turn of the year from 2022 to 2023, the machine was first used in the village Dörpen in Lower-Saxony. Visit the picture gallery for an impression.
