KWK-tec brings CHP plants up to modern standards
On behalf of a municipal wastewater treatment plant in the Netherlands, KWK-tec GmbH, a subsidiary of 2G Energy AG, collaborated with Biogas Holland B.V. to carry out a comprehensive retrofit project to modernize the existing on-site power supply. The goal was to future-proof the CHP technology, sustainably increase efficiency, and minimize downtime.

On behalf of a municipal wastewater treatment plant in the Netherlands, KWK-tec GmbH, a subsidiary of 2G Energy AG, collaborated with Biogas Holland B.V. to carry out a comprehensive retrofit project to modernize the existing on-site power supply. The goal was to future-proof the CHP technology, sustainably increase efficiency, and minimize downtime.

As part of the project, two existing CHP plants were upgraded with the high-performance engine technology of the 2G agenitor 408. In addition, the control systems were completely overhauled to seamlessly integrate the new units into the existing plant infrastructure and ensure optimal plant operation.

Each of the two agenitor 408 modules has an electrical output of 330 kW and ensures a reliable and highly efficient on-site power supply for the wastewater treatment plant. The modernization has significantly improved the plant’s operational performance: reduced downtime, higher plant availability, and a noticeable increase in efficiency contribute to optimizing plant operations, as do reduced maintenance and repair costs. This results in a sustainable improvement in the plant’s long-term economic efficiency.

With this successful refit project, KWK-tec and Biogas Holland B.V. demonstrate how existing CHP plants can be brought up to the latest state of the art in a cost-effective and resource-efficient manner through targeted modernization measures. The result is a future-proof energy supply with higher efficiency, increased availability, and long-term optimization of operating costs.
