RAG Austria AG is Austria's largest energy storage company and one of Europe's leading technical storage operators. The company's main focus is on the storage, conversion, and demand-oriented conditioning of energy in the form of gaseous energy sources. As a partner in renewable energies, RAG Austria develops innovative and forward-looking energy technologies related to green gases such as hydrogen. With storage capacities of around 6.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas, the company operates around 6% of all EU gas storage capacities. RAG has developed and operates a total of eleven energy storage facilities (porous storage). These include the storage facilities in Puchkirchen/Haag, Haidach, Haidach 5, Aigelsbrunn, and the 7Fields storage network, as well as the hydrogen storage facilities in Pilsbach and Rubensdorf. This means that RAG stores large quantities of natural gas and, increasingly, hydrogen in underground sandstone reservoirs.
The installation of our agenitor 412 CHP unit forms a central link between stored energy and a demand-oriented energy supply. When needed, the stored gas can be efficiently converted into electricity and heat. In addition, the CHP unit guarantees continuous security of supply. The installed module has an electrical output of 360 kW and a thermal output of 372 kW. The system also features dual operation and can run on both hydrogen and natural gas, enabling more flexible and reliable operation.
In addition to generating electricity, the CHP plant produces usable waste heat. This can be used to heat operating facilities, storage infrastructure, or buildings, significantly increasing overall efficiency. For RAG Austria AG, the CHP plant is more than just an energy generation unit—it is a strategic element that enables the efficient, flexible, and climate-friendly use of stored energy. In combination with modern storage and power-to-gas technologies, it makes a decisive contribution to sector coupling, security of supply, and decarbonization of the energy system.
