Akron City and KBC Services upgrade Composting Facility with biogas CHP system

2G Energy technology gave owner significant advantage
Akron and KBC Services improved their Composting Facility with a biogas CHP system from 2G Energy Inc. The system uses methane from a Waste Water Treatment plant and an anaerobic digester. The system produces 14,940 MW of electricity and 1,926 kWh of heat per year.

The City of Akron together with KBC Services (today KB Bio Energy) decided to add a 2G Energy Inc. biogas CHP system to their Composting Facility combined with a Waste Water Treatment plant to utilize the produced methane. Originally KBC already operated one digester with CHP. A much larger system needed to be constructed. The anaerobic digester was designed and built by BioFerm / Schmack (Viessman Group) and 2G Energy Inc supplied 3 x 2G avus 600 with fully integrated MWM engines rated 600 ekW/h each - total 1,800 ekW/h or 14,940 MW p.a. of Electrical Power and 1,926 kWh/th Thermal Power. 2G Energy Inc. also supplied gas compression as well as a 2G Thermal Oil System with bypass technology. The custom designed and engineered technology from 2G Energy was definitely a huge advantage for the owner.
