Tradition meets innovation

The oldest brewery in the USA operates a 2G 400ekW/h CHP system
Did you know that Yuengling, the oldest brewery in the USA, is also one of the smartest? They use a 2G 400ekW/h CHP system that runs on biogas from their wastewater treatment plant and anaerobic digester. This system provides 20% of their electricity needs and heats their pasteurization process, saving them a lot of money and energy. They also have a dual-fuel module that can switch to natural gas if needed. This is a great example of how breweries can use advanced biogas technologies and modern CHP energy conversion systems from 2G Energy Inc. to become more sustainable and profitable.

The oldest brewery in the USA operates a 2G 400ekW/h CHP system, serving about 20% of Yuengling's total electricity needs at the brewery, saving the owner significant dollars. Yuengling is joining the group of smart breweries that embrace new advanced biogas technologies and modern CHP energy conversion systems from 2G Energy Inc.

The world famous brewery will use the heat generated by the plant to heat the breweries pasteurization process, a critical component of the beer production process. That allows Yuengling to save additionally significant amounts of energy. Less steam is required to heat the breweries tunnel pasteurizers, and that in itself represents substantial savings. The methane gas is generated at the Yuengling brewery wastewater treatment plant and an anaerobic digester, designed by Biothane Corporation, which is now part of Veolia. The balance of the system was done by System Design Engineering and EMG. 2G Energy Inc. also supplied the gas treatment system to dehumidify the saturated gas, and to remove H2S contained in the raw biogas. The CHP system has been designed as dual fuel module and can be operated on low BTU biogas, as well as pipeline quality natural gas. 2G Energy inc. was selected to supply and install a fully containerized agenitor 212 thermodynamically optimized MAN-based engine with 400 ekW/h or 3,320 MW p.a. electrical power and 474 kWh/th thermal power output. The payback and ROI for this project will come from the energy produced, and the CHP pays for itself.
