Radisson Blu Hotel reaps benefits of CHP

The Radisson Blu Hotel in Manchester is a textbook case for utilising the benefits of CHP
With over 400 bedrooms, meeting rooms, a lounge, bar & restaurant as well as a swimming pool, gym, sauna & steam room to provide power and heat, sourcing these separately from the grid would incur a considerable cost increase over a 2G decentralised power solution.

Facts & figures

Application:
Hotels and resorts
Country:
Wielka Brytania
CHP:
Patruus
Output el/th (kW):
400 kW/ 493 kW
Operator:
Radisson Blu

The selected CHP was the Patruus 400 running on natural gas. This provides 400 kW of electrical power, and 493 kW of thermal power to the building. It is included with a dump radiator as it is a power led solution, so heat can be dissipated if there is no demand thus maintaining 24/7 operation.

The energy centre proved to be a difficult install, with some engine disassembly required for this to be delivered to its location in the centre.  Despite this, 2G still managed to complete the install on time and in budget, thanks to extensive pre-planning.  As the energy centre is already sufficiently acoustically sealed, the standard attenuation of 65 dBA at 1m away was met with the ‘on –frame’ sound capsule to meet client requirements. Now fully operational, the CHP system at the Radisson Blu provides a good proportion of the power & heat required. It also reduced the CO2 emissions of the hotel by a considerable amount, and saved them a large amount of money in energy costs.

“2G were able to accommodate our difficult install requirements quickly & easily and provide a competitive price for the work. They were on and off site very quickly and we were very pleased overall with the install & commissioning process”
