District heating of a large logistics hub
A tailor-made cogeneration solution to ensure optimal performance and environmental sustainability
Facts & figures
EGEA Spa, DIMAR's multi-service partner, has carefully selected the ideal cogeneration solution for the distribution center (CEDI) in Roreto di Cherasco (CN). The company chose 2G, a leader in the energy sector for almost 30 years, to guarantee cutting-edge performance and reduce environmental impact.
The DIMAR CEDI, built in 1990, covers an area of 30,000 m2 and required an efficient district heating system to supply commercial users. In 2022, EGEA carried out a major upgrade of the plant, replacing the boilers with low Nox emission models and installing a 2G cogeneration engine.
The cogeneration plant is integrated with a 1MWp photovoltaic system installed on the roof of the logistics hub. The aura engine, specifically designed to guarantee low Nox emissions, is connected directly to the EGEA thermal power plant and powers the logistics hub's district heating network. The electrical energy produced by the engine powers the power plant's auxiliaries, with any surplus fed directly into the grid.
The 280 kWel and 405 kWth aura 408 engine has proven to meet the low-emission efficiency needs required by the Piedmont Region.
Its configuration without the use of SCR (Selective Catalyst Reduction) allows reaching nitrogen oxide values lower than 50 mg/Nm3. The specific thermal power 15% higher than the competition guarantees an optimal supply of thermal energy to the district heating network, with a longer life cycle and reduced management and maintenance costs.
The cogeneration project at the DIMAR logistics hub represents an excellent episode of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in the large-scale retail trade sector, demonstrating DIMAR's strong commitment to a sustainable energy future.
