Enercon, founded by Aloys Wobben in Aurich in 1984, is one of the world‘s leading companies in the wind energy sector. Globally, Enercon has installed 24,400 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 37.9 gigawatts. The company manufactures at several locations in Germany as well as in Brazil, Portugal, Sweden and Turkey.

Aurich, in the North of Germany, is the founding site and headquarters of the company and is where the huge rotor blades, as well as other components, are manufactured. A lot of energy is needed for the production process, and for heating and lighting the large production halls. The demand is largely met with three cogeneration plants from 2G. Each avus 1000c module has an electrical output of 1,200 kW and a thermal output of 1,200 kW.

The avus series is one of the most reliable and efficient of its kind. The overall efficiency is an impressive 86.7%. The three avus plants, each in its own concrete acoustic hood, are installed on an area right next to the production facility. The concrete acoustic hood reduces the noise emissions to 45 dB (A) at 10 m (33 ft). The three cogeneration plants are fueled with biomethane.
