ECB Enviro North American Inc. operates a biogas Combined Heat and Power (CHP) facility in the County of Lethbridge, situated just east of the City of Lethbridge, Alberta. The facility processes up to 150,000 tons of livestock manure along with organic resources from food processing and animal byproducts each year. The renewable energy facility generates approximately 11,000,000 cubic meters of biogas annually.

Two biogas fueled 2G avus CHP units with a capacity of 1,426 kW/h each are converting the processed biogas into approximately 23,600,000 kWh of electricity and approx. 100,000 GJ of thermal energy per year. Hot water is also utilized for heating at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Lethbridge Research Centre. The electricity is exported into the grid, enough to supply energy to more than 2,500 homes. Generating electrical and thermal energy through the anaerobic digestion of organics reduces greenhouse gases significantly. It is estimated that the Lethbridge biogas plant with 2G’s CHP system will eliminate and offset approx. 45,000 ton of harmful carbon dioxide emissions per year.
